Wren Acorn captured the Youth Female category while Hannah Clark (skating at the University of Calgary) won the Mary Beth Miller Senior Female category for their excellence in sport. Thanks to Coach Kerry for organizing a fun afternoon at the YK Climbing Club on February 21st for SS2 and SS3 skaters when the ice was not available. Not only are these skaters fast, but they can climb like monkeys too!
The 2016 NWT Speed Skating Championships will be held Feb 27–28th at the Multiplex, Jeske Arena. This meet is for all ages – those under six (as of June 30, 2015) skate as Rockets at noon on Saturday. Registration is now open and will close Sunday, February 14th.
Our City Council has not yet decided about possibly hosting the Canada Winter Games. Our Club encourages you to let your voice be heard if you’re interested in supporting the Games. A total of 16 skaters from 6 years of age to … well the Master’s level …. represented the YKSSC at this years Edmonton Fall Classic and T2T Single Distance Championship. All of the skaters represented Yellowknife well with super effort and great sportsmanship. On top of that, each skater walked away with multiple PB’s!! … Read more
Great news! City staff have informed us that the YK Arena renovations are nearing completion and ON TIME! Starting Tuesday, November 17th, all REGULAR scheduled skating TIMES and LOCATIONS for all programs will resume. Thanks for everyone’s patience!
