On-Ice Open House and Bring-a-Friend to Class

Happening Saturday, October 22 and Sunday, 23, 2022, this is a great way to have a friend join you on the ice, or for anyone to come try out our speed skate classes (and even try on a pair of speed skates if you are older)!

There is no cost to join us for this On-Ice Open House or to Bring-a-Friend to class!

  • Come out and learn what speed skating is all about.
  • Play games and learn drills.
  • Try out a fun and positive on-ice sport.
  • Hot chocolate and goodies will be available for all attendees!

What skaters will need to bring:

  • CSA-approved helmet.
  • Gloves/mitts (water-resistant is ideal). 
  • Hockey skates. Figure skates are NOT permitted as the tips make holes in the ice.
  • All participants must sign a YKSSC waiver before getting on the ice. Anyone under the age of 18 needs to come with a parent or guardian or bring the signed waiver with them. We will have waivers ready for skaters to sign at the classes, or download the waiver, print and sign in advance.

Please come at the designated time for your skaters age range:

Ages 3-5: Learn to Skate Program

  • Saturday, October 22 from 10 – 11 am OR Sunday, October 23 from 11 am – 12 pm
  • Yellowknife Community Arena
  • Skaters for this group must come with a parent (or guardian) to help on ice

Ages 5-7: Speed Skate 1 Program

  • Saturday, October 22 from 11 am – 12 pm OR Sunday, October 23 from 12 pm – 1 pm
  • Yellowknife Community Arena
  • Skaters for this group can come with a parent (or guardian) to help on ice. This is optional if skaters can skate on their own.
  • If you do not join your child on the ice, we ask you please remain in the building during this event

Ages 7 and up: Speed Skate 2, Speed Skate 3 and Senior Competitive Program

  • Sunday, October 23 from 12:30 – 2:30 pm
  • Ed Jeske Arena (Multiplex)
  • There will be a limited supply of speed skates available for guests to try at no cost
